About FilmTerms

FilmTerms is an iPhone filmmaking terminology and education app offering searchable definitions, lessons, flashcards, quizzes, favorites, collections and optional voice-assisted search. FilmTerms does not require an account and does not display advertising.

Information stored on your device

FilmTerms stores information used to provide its learning and convenience features on your device, including saved term identifiers, recent search queries, collections and learning progress. The terminology database and educational lessons are bundled with the app. The reviewed app implementation uses iOS local preferences (UserDefaults) for this information; the app does not require a Breakwater Films account to use these features.

Voice search and Apple's speech recognition

If you choose to use “What Did They Say?”, FilmTerms asks for microphone and speech-recognition permissions. Audio is used to convert your spoken question into text to search filmmaking terminology. Speech recognition uses Apple's Speech framework. Depending on device capabilities, settings and Apple's implementation, Apple may process speech data using its services rather than entirely on your device. Apple's handling of information processed by its services is governed by Apple's applicable privacy terms. You can turn off microphone or speech recognition access in iPhone Settings and use typed search instead.

Accounts, advertising and payments

FilmTerms does not provide user accounts, third-party advertising, or in-app purchases. If you purchase FilmTerms through Apple's App Store, Apple handles the purchase and related payment information. Breakwater Films Productions does not collect your payment-card details through the app.

Analytics and tracking

The FilmTerms version reviewed for this notice does not include an advertising SDK, third-party analytics SDK or account-based tracking feature. Its app privacy manifest declares that the app does not track users across other companies' apps or websites. We will update this policy if these practices change. Operating-system services, the App Store, and Apple's speech recognition may have separate data practices.

Support messages and website visits

If you email support, we receive the information you choose to include, such as your email address, message and any troubleshooting details. We use it to respond to your request. Messages to our support address are forwarded through Cloudflare Email Routing to our support inbox. Our website is hosted with Cloudflare, which may process technical connection information such as IP addresses and request logs for site delivery and security under its applicable privacy terms. Do not send passwords or sensitive personal information in a support request.

Retention and your choices

You can clear recent searches in the app where that control is provided, manage saved terms and collections, and revoke microphone or speech-recognition permissions in iPhone Settings. Deleting the app ordinarily removes its locally stored app data from that device; information included in device backups may remain according to your Apple backup settings. To request deletion of an email support conversation, contact us using the address below. We may retain correspondence where reasonably necessary for support, security, or legal compliance.

Children

FilmTerms is a general filmmaking education and reference tool, not a service specifically directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly operate child-directed accounts, behavioral advertising or targeted marketing in the app. If you have a concern about information a child sent to our support address, contact us.

Updates

We may update this policy to reflect product or legal changes. The effective date above will be revised when changes are published.
